I’ve been drinking raw unpasteurized grass-fed milk (because I’m a food snob) for the past 10 weeks. I’ve always been lactose intolerant but I find I can drink 1-2 glasses of the raw milk and have no problems. If I drink more then that I usually run into some trouble (ie: gas, bloating, cramps, complaints from anyone in close proximity).
Well last night I had a nice tall glass of whole milk from the store. It was my first glass of any type of milk that day. I was at my girlfriend’s mom’s house and just had a craving for some and went for it.
Big mistake.
A few hours later I was feeling it. So was everyone around me. You know the deal, bad gas, cramps, bloating etc etc. It was pretty terrible. I was still having stomach trouble in the morning.
This was really interesting to me because I’ve always read about the benefits of raw milk. The process of pasteurizing milk destroys all of the enzymes inside of milk along with the germs. Well, milk naturally contains the enzyme lactase, the enzyme your body needs to break down the sugar in milk, lactose. When you destroy the enzyme lactase in milk from pasteurization, you make the product that much more difficult to digest.
I was feeling this first hand. I was the guinea pig. Anyway, here is my own story practical story about one of the benefits of raw milk. i thought I’d share it with you guys!
